Sept. 2011 news

Hi there, it's been awhile. Decided I really need to drop in and post a little something! Currently sitting down this morning to begin scoring film for Patrice Hamilton's upcoming documentary. Patrice used one of my songs, "Something That Breaks," in her film "Exposure," http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBfgZi5bGHk -but this is the first time I'll actually be scoring a whole film. It's something I've been wanting to do for a long time, so I'm thrilled, and busy with a rather substantial technical learning curve! I'll also be writing an actual song with lyrics for the trailer and the credits, so I'll bring that out when it's ready.

The past year has been so full and busy to the point of madness. It's now my second year creating a music program for inner-city schools, through Creative Classrooms. This is an organization that finds artists to create programs in underfunded communities where the arts have either been cut or never existed. It's been an incredible opportunity, both professionally and personally. Both very challenging and very exhilarating. Basically I have about 180 students in my program, of all age groups, from very young to teenagers. It's been expansive in so many ways. I have a much better awareness of the state of our urban educational system and those it serves. I love this work & how it's added to my life as an artist.

At the same time my body of private students is expanding weekly in NYC, and I'm about to take my own studio space to accommodate it. These students cover a wide demographic of ages, genders and interests, but most are working on a combination of singing/playing guitar/building repertoire and songwriting, so I coach in both vocal technique and guitar, and then helping them put it together. This is now morphing into upcoming workshops for students who are auditioning for special music programs (such as LaGuardia High School). FUN.

I've gotten a lot of nice notes from people wondering when the next gig is, and I do plan to play in the upcoming year, if not sooner. Performing is awesome & vital, but my creative energy right now is being fueled into these other projects, so I'm just allowing that flow. But definitely looking to record some of my new material by early 2012. See you or hear from you soon, I hope :) life is beautiful. Libby
